The Practice

North Carolina Neuropsychiatry, PA began in 1978 as the Neuropsychiatry Research Project, funded by the National Institute of Health. In 1988, NC Neuropsychiatry, PA became the first private clinic in North Carolina devoted exclusively to medical psychiatry and rehabilitation.

We provide general psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, and psychopharmacology for children, adolescents and adults. We currently offer full service clinics in Charlotte, Chapel Hill and Raleigh.

Special treatment and research experience includes: Attention Deficit Disorder in children and adults; Traumatic Brain Injury;Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; Tourette's syndrome and Obsessive-compulsive disorder; learning disabilities and mild cognitive problems associated with aging; and mental retardation and autism.

NCN clinicians do forensic work as well, especially in the evaluation of brain injury, medical malpractice and the quality of psychiatric care delivered by state MH/MR systems. We have consulted in numerous states to improve public psychiatry.

Because we specialize in psychopharmacology - medication treatments for psychiatric disorders and cognitive dysfunction - we have kept up an active research program. As a result, we conduct clinical trials of medications for various pharmaceutical companies. Research in psychopharmacology keeps us abreast of new developments in the field, and permits some study patients to received reduced cost or in some cases no cost evaluations, treatment, and follow-up care.
