The Practice
North Carolina Neuropsychiatry began at the University of North Carolina in 1978 as the Neuropsychiatry Research Project. For 11 years at UNC, the clinic was funded by the National Institutes of Health. In 1988, NC Neuropsychiatry, PA became the first private clinic in North Carolina devoted exclusively to medical psychiatry and rehabilitation.
Since then, we have provided consultations and treatment in general psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, and psychopharmacology. As the clinic has grown and developed, we have come to provide specialized services for children and adolescents, elderly people, patients with brain injury or neurological conditions, and, most recently, women’s mental health.
The neuropsychiatry clinics continue to be active in clinical research, professional presentations and publication. We are primarily a consultation/evaluation clinic. Because many patients come to us from North Carolina and neighboring states, patients are usually referred back for treatment by their local physicians. The doctors keep up with us by phone.
There are four neuropsychiatry clinics: Chapel Hill (1988), Charlotte (1983), Raleigh (2008) and
North Raleigh (2010).
